If you know the person was living on 5 January 1870 then I'd suggest changing the death date to after that.

Is Heredis looking at working directly with GenSmarts? Great genealogy utility, but currently Heredis users can only use it via a GEDCOM file which isn't ideal.

Troubleshooting: have you opened each? Are they the same? Can you see changes from a specific date on each?
