OK now …

Have a look at your "Private messages"

I guess that BSD/Heredis do not realize that nobiliary particles could be used outside french speaking countries …
Sincerely.

As you have not answered my offer, I understand you don't want to send me your file (fear that I steal it's content ?)

Here is a H17 file which does recognize as nobiliary particles : am, an, auf, auf der, aus der, d’, de, im, of, ‘t, van, van den, van der, van ‘t, von, von der, von und zu, zu, zum, zur (all in low case)
a part.hmw.zip
(31.42 KiB) Downloaded 117 times
- Open it
- Import your own heredis file
- suppress the individual "Ernst DUMMY" and suppress "DUMMY from the "Surname index"
- and now, to key-in your surnames use viewtopic.php?f=18&t=4683#p12139

High roll now …
Sincerely.
Mike

Thanks for the feedback, I didn't get around to replying till now and just seeing these messages. You can ignore my pm cause I see your answer here already :). I'll check and see if I can get things to work with your suggestion.

Apologies for the late reply! I was unable to work on Heredis the last two weeks (unexpected).
I just tested the file and it works for almost all names I currently have in my file except for the following:

't
van de
in 't

That's the names I currently have though. I know in the Netherlands alone there are 333 prefixes used in last names, idk about other countries. So I'm bound to bump into another one at one point. Is there a way for me to add another prefix to the file if I come across one?

Or even better yet, is there a way to ask Heredis team to add these prefixes in their program :D

Yes, and without any unlawfull action …
- use the french demo version for PC (see section "Patches" in https://www.heredis.com/aide-et-support ... n/#patches )
- to create a "Nouvelle généalogie" containing a "première personne" only
- then update by your needs the 'liste des particules" using the "Outils" of the "Dictionnaire des noms"
- 'enregistrer" (save) the file and use it with your 'foreign' (English) PC version

(It does not apply for the Mac versions)

Wait... So the French version of Heredis has the option to add specific prefixes to the surname list?? :o :o

I'll be heading over to the suggestions form to ask this option to be added to the English version as well...

Thanks for letting me know. I'll be looking into that workaround.

NOTE: I edited the topic to read Nobiliary particles where it said Prefixes before.

I used the wrong terminology before. Where it reads prefixes I mean Nobiliary Particles.
