[Solved] User defined fields have not been imported to 2.0.4

Post by nevwgood » Wed Jul 04, 2012 4:50 pm

I've successfully transferred from Snow Leopard and v10.2.3 to Lion and v2.0.4, but the User Defined Fields have not come across. I had made fields 8, 7, 6 and 5 record where the individuals were at the 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911 censuses, which was very useful. Anyone know if I can transfer this information without retyping?

Would'nt you find these data in the window "Personnal Data" under the tab "User Fields" ?

No, that is the problem. The User Fields under Personal Data are empty. The fields that I had changed in v10 have their default values of Reference #, Religious Name, ID# and Caste.

You then went through an export/import of a Gedcom file ?

Have you checked with v10.2 if the Preferences for those fields autorize export ?
It would be better to open the v10.2 file with v10.3 and then with the actual v2 to avoid losses of information ; someone with those versions available will certainly offer to help you do that ...

Ah - thanks Mike! That is the problem! I didn't realise that I had to go to Preferences. But it seems I would have to export the info using one of the recognised GEDCOM tags (RELIGION, CAST etc). I'll try doing that.

Hmmm. The fields have been exported successfully: I could find them when I searched through the exported file with Text Edit. But the information in the fields has not been imported to the new file. I can't find anything in Preferences in v2 to govern imported fields.
