Places merging

Post by scgriff » Mon Jul 16, 2018 11:47 pm

I see several location that are complete/uncomplete that are the same location. Wish I could just merge the places into one location without having to go through individuals attached to the individual location(s).

As an example;
1) Boston, Massachusetts, United States
2) Boston, Suffix County, Massachusetts, United States

Would merge (1) into (2) which is a more complete location.

One more issue … How come when I look at Locations - some of the locations are not displayed. Using the example above;
3) Boston, Suffix County, Massachusetts, United States (British Colonial America)

I don't do see any places listed with (British Colonial America)

Hello,

To merge 2 places have you tried the Replace function in the Places Index?

1. Open the places index and find the item in question to be replaced.
2. Click the Replace… on the toolbar of the list.
3. Select the replacement item in the list. Click Choose to confirm the replacement.

The element is replaced in the Index, and therefore wherever it has been used in your genealogy. The Index now contains one element less than before.

More details in the Heredis help.

I don't see what you are talking about.

Example, I have 5 Barnstable locations .. see attached.

Haaaa ....OK. I'll give it a go! Thanks!

One other question regarding the merger - How does it handle the subdivisions? In the subdivisions I have a Parish or Cemetery listed in some records.

It does nothing at all concerning the subdivisions ; they stay as is wherever they exist
