Problem with Family Search EN

Post by ianb1 » Fri Nov 29, 2019 11:26 pm

For the last few days I have been unable to access Family Search from the search function. My login works and Family Search does open but with a large red strap line that states "An Error Has Occurred - We are unable to display page content due to technical difficulties. Please try again soon. "

Solved - Heredis 2019 is no longer compatible! Seems we will have to wait for Heredis 2020.

Have you had this officially from BSD? Is it a policy decision?

Yes it's official. Not a policy decision but it seems like Family Search have made a changed that has broken the links.
I see that Heredis 2020 is due out sometime in December - I'll wait and see.

I wouldn’t have thought (but I don’t know) that the coding to resolve the problem would be similar in the new version and could be introduced to the 2019 version. After all it is the current version and some people may have recently purchased it on the expectation that the facilities are functional.

This message is shown here: https://help.heredis.com/en/compatibili ... ilysearch/
Compatibility Heredis & FamilySearch
Heredis integrates various functions that allow you to search, compare, link, and import persons from FamilySearch universal Family Tree.
However, FamilySearch regularly makes major changes in their database, only Heredis 2020 will be compatible with their latest updates.

And Heredis has never been listed as an app in this list on Family Search:

I would say that it is a policy decision to decide not to implement the fix on Heredis 2019 and fix only in Heredis 2020.

I realise that resources are scarce and that fixing it for Heredisn 2019 does not bring new sales as it affects users who have already purchased the software.

On the other hand, it can be argued that supporting the new changed FamilySearch system is actually a new feature.

Whatever reasons they had, it is an active policy decision.

I don’t think it can be argued that it is a new feature. It worked - it doesn’t work anymore and fixing a current or recent product is Called CUSTOMER SUPPORT.
